Workaround
Star Citizen service access is blocked by API-denied Error 403
Tracked since 21 Aug 2026 · Last researched 21 Aug 2026
Problem
The RSI Launcher or game-service connection is blocked by API-denied Error 403. This is the service-access failure, not an HTTP 403 that appears only while downloading game files.

Best current action
Change the VPN server or region
If you already use a VPN or proxy, switch to a different server or region and retry once. Stop if the same 403 returns.
A different endpoint tests another network route. This is the strongest current action for this state, but no endpoint is known to work consistently.
What to do
- Fully close the RSI Launcher.
- Reconnect the VPN through a different server or region.
- Reopen the launcher and retry the same service connection once.
Any reported benefit is limited to regaining access; it does not establish a universal result.
Other options
Disable the VPN or proxy
Disconnecting the VPN tests the ordinary ISP route. Use this only when a VPN or proxy is active.
Steps
- Disconnect the VPN or proxy without changing other settings.
- Fully close and reopen the RSI Launcher.
- Retry the service connection once.
API-denied 403 can also occur without a VPN, so this does not cover every case.
Close the launcher, wait, and retry once
Use this when the VPN actions do not apply; it costs one clean launcher restart and retry.
What to try
- Exit the RSI Launcher completely.
- Wait briefly, then reopen it.
- Retry once; stop repeating if the same 403 returns.
This remains Unverified for the exact API-denied 403 state.
Flush DNS once
Use this as a one-time local network check after the 403 persists.
What to try
- Flush the local DNS cache using the operating system's normal network tools.
- Retry the same connection once.
- Stop treating it as relevant if the 403 persists.
Mixed outcomes do not support repeated DNS attempts.
