Klescher prison sentence timer fails and resets after death or returning early
Tracked since 2 Sept 2026 · Last researched 2 Sept 2026
Problem
Your Klescher sentence timer fails to preserve progress and jumps back to its full or earlier time after you die in prison or return before the sentence is complete.
CIG still lists this in Alpha 4.10.x LIVE. It has not announced a deployed fix, and no current player test shows how often either prevention route works.

Best current action
Log out once and wait out the full displayed sentence
Check the remaining time, log out through the menu, and do not return until all of it has passed. This is CIG's current low-impact route and keeps you away from the two known triggers, but it is not guaranteed.
CIG currently recommends this route, and sentence time is meant to keep counting while you are offline. It also removes the risk of dying or committing another infraction while you wait.
What to do
- Check and record the sentence terminal's displayed remaining time.
- Use the game menu to log out manually.
- Do not log back in until at least that entire remaining time has passed.
- After it has passed, log back in and check release status once.
Before leaving, note the full remaining time and be prepared not to play the Persistent Universe until it has elapsed. You cannot play the Persistent Universe during the wait. Returning early is itself a documented reset trigger, and historical players report mixed results even after long offline waits.
Diagnostic checks
These checks can identify the affected state, but they are not fixes.
Report a fresh reset to Issue Council
A current reproduction with the LIVE version and exact trigger can help CIG investigate a problem it still lists as known.
What to check
- Sign in to the Issue Council and select the Star Citizen project.
- Search for an existing Klescher sentence-timer reset report before creating one.
- If a current open report exists, contribute the LIVE version, trigger, frequency, and screenshots or video.
- If no usable current report exists, create a new issue with reproduction steps and evidence.
You need an eligible signed-in RSI backer account and a first-hand encounter to submit a positive reproduction. Reporting takes time and will not restore sentence progress or release your character.
Other options
If you stay online, avoid every reset trigger
CIG's other route is to remain alive and avoid further infractions. Legal mining or facility tasks can normally shorten a sentence, but active play leaves you exposed to another death or Klescher failure.
Steps
- Remain in Klescher and do not use death or backspace as a shortcut.
- Avoid further prison infractions and do not attempt an escape.
- If you actively reduce the sentence, use Klescher mining or available facility tasks.
- Return to release processing only when the terminal shows the sentence complete.
Use this route only if you can stay alive and avoid any additional illegal action while incarcerated. Death can erase progress, while a further infraction can reset or lengthen the sentence. Historical players report both eventual release after mining and repeated resets despite mining.
What not to try
Do not use Character Repair for this timer reset
CIG says Character Repair cannot reset CrimeStats, and one affected player reported that two attempts did not fix the sentence. It is a disruptive account tool, not a supported prison recovery.

Boundaries and evidence
Use this page for lost Klescher sentence progress after death or an early return. A timer that merely counts down slowly, a release elevator that fails after the timer reaches zero, missing prison gear, or a CrimeStat that remains after escape is a different problem.
CIG has not identified the exact Alpha 4.10.x hotfix that carries the reset, how common it is, or when a fix will ship.
No inspectable independent Alpha 4.10 test confirms either prevention route or provides a success rate.
Older player reports conflict: both offline waiting and active mining have succeeded for some players and failed for others.
The exact current Issue Council report, contribution count, and investigation status were not publicly inspectable.
We did not reproduce this reset or test either route.
