Select System destination is missing

Tracked since 25 Aug 2026 · Last researched 25 Aug 2026

Problem

The main-menu Select System control is empty or shows no destination, so you cannot choose a Persistent Universe system.

CIG lists this as a rare Alpha 4.9 issue. The most common cause is that the launcher account does not currently have a qualifying game package.

What to try

Start by checking My Hangar on the same RSI account used by the launcher. If game access is missing, restore it. If access is already present, fully restart the game and launcher, sign in again, and verify the files.

If My Hangar on the same account does not show Star Citizen Digital Download or an activated current Free Fly

Restore access on the launcher account

CIG identifies missing game-package access as the most common cause, and a Free Fly report describes the selector returning after access activation.

What to do

  1. Open My Hangar on the RSI website using the same account as the launcher.
  2. Confirm a pledge includes Star Citizen Digital Download or that the current Free Fly has been activated.
  3. If access is absent, restore or acquire a qualifying game package, or activate the Free Fly when available.
  4. Fully exit and relaunch the RSI Launcher with that same account.

Check the same RSI account used by the launcher; access on a different account will not satisfy this route. Check existing access before buying anything. A new game package costs real money and will not help when qualifying access is already present.

If My Hangar on the same account already shows qualifying Star Citizen game access

Restart the launcher completely and verify files

CIG recommends a complete game-and-launcher restart for accounts that already have access. Player outcomes are mixed, so treat this as the supported first attempt for this branch rather than a guaranteed fix.

What to do

  1. Confirm My Hangar shows current Star Citizen game access on the same account used by the launcher.
  2. Exit Star Citizen and the RSI Launcher, including their remaining tasks.
  3. Wait a few minutes, reopen the launcher, and sign in again with the same account.
  4. Use the launcher's Verify option before starting the game once.

The launcher account must already show qualifying Star Citizen access. This takes time but does not intentionally remove account or character data.

Boundaries and evidence

Use this page when the system list is missing before you enter the game. It does not cover a destination that appears normally but hangs later during loading.

No current Alpha 4.9 executed success was retained for the official routes, and adjacent 2026 LIVE reports include both success and failure.

No inspectable current Issue Council report was found for the exact incident, so hotfix-level prevalence and resolution status remain unknown.

Other options

Check VPN or security filtering

CIG says web protection or other security filtering can interfere. Current guidance supports the check, but the retained success report is historical.

Steps

  1. Use this only after package access is confirmed and a full restart did not work.
  2. Identify active VPN web-protection, antivirus, or anti-malware filtering.
  3. Allowlist the RSI Launcher in that product, or briefly disable only the suspected protection for a controlled test.
  4. Restore protection after the test and keep only the minimum required allowlist exception.

Confirm package access and complete the launcher restart route first. Disabling protection reduces device security. Prefer a narrow launcher allowlist and restore protection promptly after a controlled test.

Restart the computer once

CIG relays that a few players found a full computer restart helpful, but no direct current execution evidence was retained.

Steps

  1. Save other work and close applications.
  2. Restart Windows fully rather than only relaunching the game.
  3. Open the RSI Launcher and test the selector once.

Try this only after the lower-impact account and launcher checks do not restore the selector. This interrupts other local work but is otherwise reversible.
