Equipped items can disappear when you name a ship

Tracked since 23 Aug 2026 · Last researched 23 Aug 2026

Problem

Equipped ship items and customization can disappear when a name change completes.

Use this precaution only before naming a ship that has non-stock gear or customization installed.

Best current action

Remove non-stock items before naming

Before naming a ship with non-stock gear or customization, remove it. Rename the ship with its stock loadout, then restore your setup. If items are already missing, this cannot recover them.

The risky transition is the completed name change, so the ship needs its stock configuration before you submit.

What to do

  1. Open the ship loadout or customization view.
  2. Remove all non-stock equipment and customization, placing each item in an inventory you can access.
  3. Submit the name change only after the ship is back to its stock configuration.
  4. After naming, re-equip the items or reapply the customization if the game allows it.

No current independent test establishes how reliably this prevents loss across different ships.

What not to try

Do not retry naming to recover missing items

ContradictedLow risk

If items disappeared, do not rely on another rename or loadout change to restore them. Record the ship, item, and build for Issue Council or RSI Support instead.
