Quantum drive does not engage

Tracked since 21 Sept 2026 · Last researched 21 Sept 2026

Problem

A quantum destination remains set, or you can manually aim at one, but the drive does not engage and the jump never starts.

Historical reports describe this after the drive has spooled and calibrated. No exact report was found for Alpha 4.10.1.

Current conclusion

No reliable fix is confirmed

No reliable recovery is confirmed for this exact problem on Alpha 4.10.1. The three low-impact fallbacks below come from single historical reports and may not work now.

Other options

Search for the destination again

One Alpha 4.8 or 4.8.1 reporter said this seemed to restore jumping, but the result was not repeated and has not been confirmed on Alpha 4.10.1.

Steps

  1. Open the starmap and zoom fully out.
  2. Search for a jump location.
  3. Set that location and retry quantum travel.

Try short hops toward a nearby moon

If a nearby moon or local destination still accepts short quantum hops

One Alpha 4.7.1 participant near Yela reported that normal travel returned after short hops and a local moon jump. This is a location-specific historical result.

Steps

  1. Attempt short quantum hops toward the nearby moon.
  2. Once close enough, jump to a location on that moon.
  3. Retry the original quantum route.

Only try this when a nearby moon or local destination still accepts short quantum hops.

Use another ship if one is available

If another ship is available to retrieve and use

One historical participant resumed travel in a different ship. This bypassed the problem but did not repair the affected ship.

Steps

  1. Store or leave the affected ship when safe to do so.
  2. Retrieve another available ship.
  3. Use the other ship for quantum travel.

This applies only when another ship is available to retrieve and use. The affected ship remains unresolved.

What's not worth trying

Do not rely on full cooler power

UnverifiedLow risk

Full cooler power has one historical success report and one later historical failure. There is no Alpha 4.10.1 result, so it is not a reliable recovery.

Do not use Character Repair for this ship-only problem

ContradictedHigh risk

A historical report combined file verification with Character Repair and did not identify which step helped. Current RSI guidance says Character Repair cannot resolve ship or vehicle bugs.

Boundaries and evidence

Use this page only when the destination remains available but the drive will not engage. A plotted route that appears and immediately disappears, or a broader problem that also removes ship control and prevents leaving the seat, is a different incident.

No exact Alpha 4.10.1 reproduction or tested recovery was found for this route-present, drive-will-not-engage incident.

The linked Issue Council report could not be inspected, so its status, affected builds, and developer disposition remain unavailable.

All exact-match action outcomes are historical, uncontrolled community reports, and none were independently tested.

The official Alpha 4.10.1 Known Issues page does not name this exact problem, but that does not show that it is resolved.

If the plotted route appears and then immediately disappears, use the separate quantum route clearing guidance.
