Inventory items disappear and fire extinguishers replace them after a patch

Tracked since 2 Sept 2026 · Last researched 2 Sept 2026

Problem

After you return to Star Citizen following a patch, many original inventory items can disappear and fire extinguishers appear in their place.

CIG still lists this problem in Alpha 4.10.x and says there is no general workaround. No current player result shows the original items being restored.

Current conclusion

No universal fix is confirmed

There is no supported way to restore the original items for most affected players. Freight Manager Claim Mode may replace one narrow class of loss—an eligible ship-related pledge item that appears there—but it does not repair the inventory bug or recover FPS gear, loot, or in-game purchases.

If the replaced original is a ship-related pledge item that appears in Freight Manager Claim Mode

Claim only an eligible ship-related pledge item

CIG's current Claim Mode can send an eligible ship-related pledge item to Local Inventory. This is official general recovery guidance, but no result yet shows it recovering an item after this fire-extinguisher replacement bug.

What to do

  1. Go to the Freight Manager kiosk in your personal hangar and interact with it.
  2. Lower the freight elevator so the Claim Mode button becomes available.
  3. Open Claim Mode, locate the eligible missing item, and select Claim.
  4. Check Local Inventory for the claimed replacement.

The item must appear as claimable; FPS gear, loot, and anything bought in game are not eligible. Claiming bricks the previous version of that item and makes it unusable, so claim only what you need.

Diagnostic checks

These checks can identify the affected state, but they are not fixes.

Add your case to STARC-214845

CIG is collecting examples to investigate the cause. A detailed contribution can help the investigation, but it will not restore your items.

What to check

  1. Sign in to the RSI Issue Council and open STARC-214845.
  2. Contribute the LIVE version on which the replacement occurred.
  3. Add reproduction context, the affected item examples, screenshots or video, frequency, and any attempted cleanup or recovery result.

Treat this as a bug report, not a recovery step.

What not to try

Do not use Character Repair to recover these items

ContradictedHigh risk

CIG says items already missing when Character Repair starts will remain lost, including personal equipment and pledge items. The process therefore does not recover the originals replaced by extinguishers.

Boundaries and evidence

Use this page only when items have changed specifically into fire extinguishers after a patch. Items that are simply missing, a pledge item that never appeared in game, and a hand-held item missing after logout are different problems.

CIG has not named the exact Alpha 4.10.x hotfix involved, which item classes can be replaced, how often this happens, or when it will be fixed.

No current independent Alpha 4.10 result restores an original item after it becomes a fire extinguisher.

The public STARC-214845 page could not be inspected, so its current status, affected-version history, and player-submitted results are not available here.

Claim Mode has not been shown recovering an eligible ship-related pledge item after this exact bug.

We did not reproduce the replacement or test Claim Mode, Character Repair, or any recovery ourselves.

If your items are missing rather than replaced by extinguishers, use the broader post-patch inventory-loss guidance.
